Fancy Bookends

"Old friends. Sat on their park bench like bookends... winter companions, the old friends... lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sun... the sounds of the city sifting through trees... settle like dust on the shoulders of the old friends." -Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel

Aren't those lovely lyric by Simon & Garfunkel? It's one of my favorite songs. We stow many of our favorite and most cherished possessions between bookends, so why not make these functional pieces slightly more fabulous than normal. Here is a collection of bookends that I am just so in love with.

Designer Spotlight: Emily Mughannam of EM Design

I was recently introduced to the work of Emily Mughannam of EM Design via MadebyGirl and I am offically in Lurrrve. Her style is fun, fresh and eclectic! Her mixes of neon and pastel hues are divine, especially in the "Teen Only Hang Out Room." I am especially loving the neon shelving, luminescent lighting, shag white carpet and bar cart.
I don't know about you, but I would hang out here whether or not I was a teen! But hey, age ain't nothing but a number... right High Hefner?

Striped Curtains

My friend at work introduced me to the idea of striped curtains. I'd never really considered them until she said she was going to dye some for the windows in her room. Again, thank you Pinterest DIY ideas!

I've decided that black and white curtains are especially chic looking.

Aren't these rooms with striped curtains photos fabulous!?

Fierce Fireplaces

I can only hope that the house that my boyfriend and I buy has a fireplace. I just adore how cozy they can make a home feel. When it's raining or gloomy outside, there's nothing like lighting a fire and curling up with a good book.

In addition to warming the home in the winter, Pinterest has opened my eyes to the different ways that you can style your fireplace in warmer months. Book storage? Hot pink paint? Yessss!

Here are some different fireplaces to set your inner interior designer hearts ablaze!

Color Punch

Truth be told: I've never been a huge fan of the word "pop." Phrases such as "pop of color" and "pop it in the oven" kind of drive me up the wall. I've found myself using the word "punch" to replace "pop." I think I'm onto something big. Some kind of shift in our design lingo. Here are some fantastic rooms with just the right "punch" of color. Enjoy...

Merrily Wed

My best friend, Nicole, got engaged over the weekend and I could NOT be happier for her and her soon-to-be hubbie! She called me right after it happened and within about 2.5 seconds of hanging up, I was already dreaming about the bachelorette party... the champagne we needed to pop ASAP... her engagement gift!

I've had my eye on a little special something for her over the past few months, knowing that a proposal was imminent... But once I started online shopping, I found way too many cute engagement gifts to choose from. Please help me pick! What's your favorite!?

Dream Home: Bathroom Edition

So, I've mentioned it a few times before, but my boyfriend and I are home hunting! This past Sunday, we went out with our Realtor (who is conveniently my sister) and looked at our first round of homes. The first few homes we toured were less than ideal. The beachy neighborhood we want to buy in lends to pricey homes and dated construction... one we looked at was built in 1910... seriously. But the last home we toured was... perfect. It had everything we wanted and more, the price was right....and right before we were about to give them our offer, we found out that the home is currently involved in a lawsuit with the neighbor over the parking situation. Our first major letdown as homebuyers! Boo. The serach continues!
One room in the house that I instantly fell in love with was the bathroom. It had a built-in dark wood vanity with a gorgeous white porcelain sink. The beautiful bath got me thinking... I might need to do some major redesign in the bath if we want it to be perfect so I built an inspiration board of luxurious bathrooms. Chickety check it out!
